Target Audience:
Pre-dental undergraduate college students and students considering entering the dental profession. Not limited to SBU students. Limited to 50 participants.
Description:
Working in Stony Brook’s SDM advanced pre-clinical laboratory, participating pre-dental students will gain valuable hands on experience and will discover what the preclinical courses of dental school are truly like. With the assistance of faculty and current student mentors, this 5 day course will help to enlighten students and confirm their interest in dentistry while expanding their application portfolio. The five day program will involve participants in the following:
- Typodont impressions
- Use of a high speed dental handpiece and other dental instruments
- Cavity preparation and restoration using both amalgam and composite
- Design and mill a CAD CAM porcelain restoration with CEREC
- Model a central incisor in wax
- Gain exposure to the dental specialties
- Have lunch with faculty and current student mentors
- Work with the Director of Admissions
- Mock Dental Interview
Fee: $1700 in residence/ $1200 commuter (includes breakfast /lunch/dinner 4 days).
