    HD 495: Research Fellowship for Entering Dental Students

    Stipend: $1,000

    Description: This course is a research fellowship program designed for students who have been accepted into the Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine DDS program and will matriculate in the fall semester.  Students in the fellowship program will work closely with their mentor to carry out a literature review, develop a research study design and/or participate in an ongoing study.  Students will be required to formulate a specific aim and hypothesis based on a research question.  They are also required to present, at the annual Leo Sreebny Research Day, a poster or oral presentation from their results based on the literature and preliminary data from their research.

    The Office of Research will send, via email, course information and an application to each entering dental student.  Applications must be submitted by the deadline.

     

    HDI 602: Year II Research Selective

    Stipend: $1,000

    Description: This is a lab-based practical course in which Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine Year I DDS students (in good academic standing) will identify a mentor, from among a list provided by the Office of Research, with whom they would like to work.  Students spend 2 months in the summer (and continue throughout the year) carrying out a clearly defined research project.  Participants are required to obtain CORHIS, CITI and biohazard training, as appropriate.  A research poster presentation at the annual Leo Sreebny Research Day is required of all research selective students. 

    Research projects may lead to: 1) AADR summer fellowship awards to fund continued research and 2) the awarding of the DDS with Research Distinction in Year IV.
