EMERGENCY CARE
As a service to our patients and the local community, the Dental Care Center maintains an ongoing emergency dental care service in order to:
- Provide emergency coverage for patients of record of the Dental Care Center
- Offer, on a limited basis, daytime dental emergency services to the University and neighboring communities.

Please note that urgent care at the SDM is not a walk-in service. Patients must first speak with a department representative, who can determine whether their dental concern is appropriate for treatment within the school's academic clinical setting and schedule a visit if appropriate.
Emergency Care for Current Patients of the Dental Care Center
If you are a patient of record (a patient who has been seen within the past year) of the Dental Care Center and you have an emergency or post-operative complication, please contact your dental resident/student that has been assigned to you between the hours of 8:30am – 1pm or 2pm – 5pm.
For evenings and weekend care, please contact the Stony Brook University Hospital Emergency Department:
- Call (631) 638-3600 for Stony Brook University Emergency Department.
- Patients of record / current patients should inform the Emergency Department that they are current patients of the Dental Care Center so that the appropriate fee adjustment can be made.

Emergency Care for Non-Patients of the Dental Care Center
If you are not an existing patient of the Dental Care Center and have a dental emergency, please call (631) 632-3791 for availability. Urgent care is available daily on a limited, triaged basis during the following hours:
- Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm
