Together with staff from across the Stony Brook University campus, as well as corporate partners, the School of Dental Medicine officially opened its new prosthodontics residency laboratory with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 26. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and instruments, the lab will enable residents can learn, experiment and master how to best use the newest innovations in prosthodontics.

Sachem Dental Group, together with the Stony Brook Foundation, has agreed to establish the Sachem Dental Group Endodontics Scholarship Fund at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. The fund will provide financial assistance for select high-achieving residents enrolled in the school’s Advanced Dental Education Program in Endodontics.

Abdel Hameed Mahmoud, DDS, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student in the Department of Oral Biology and Pathology at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine (SDM), earned first place for his research poster at the American Association of Endodontics (AAE) annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, last week.

Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine has agreed to become a part of the BigMouthDental Data Repository, joining 17 other member dental schools and institutions that combine to contribute over six million patient records to the BigMouth database. The collaboration will enable students, residents and faculty to utilize the data source to advance their research, answer clinical questions, and treat and serve patients better.

Continuing its mission to foster discovery and advance the field of dentistry, Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine hosted its annual Research Symposium on February 26 at Stony Brook University’s Student Activities Center.

Following another successful year for those entering the Postdoctoral Residency Matching Program, the course is set for Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine’s Class of 2025. Forty-six students successfully secured placements in a wide array of residency programs in New York State and around the country.

Ken Dill, PhD, a decorated figure in the fields of physics and astronomy at Stony Brook University and beyond, has been chosen to deliver the Leo Sreebny Distinguished Lecture at the School of Dental Medicine’s Annual Research Symposium on February 26, 2025.
The beginning of an annual tradition, Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine welcomed graduates celebrating milestone anniversaries back to campus for an Alumni Class Reunion on Saturday, October 26. Festivities included an afternoon barbecue, question-and-answer session with current students, school tour as well as a cocktail hour and sitdown dinner at Port Jefferson Country Club.
