School of Dental Medicine Unveils New Prosthodontics Resident Laboratory

Together with staff from across the Stony Brook University campus, as well as corporate partners, the School of Dental Medicine officially opened its new prosthodontics residency laboratory with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 26. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and instruments, the lab will enable residents can learn, experiment and master how to best use the newest innovations in prosthodontics.

Doing the honors with cutting the ribbon was Tanya Somohano Marquez, DMD, director of the Advanced Dental Education Program in Prosthodontics. For the ceremony, she and Patrick Lloyd, DDS, MS, dean of the School of Dental Medicine, were accompanied by Laura Pellizzi (fourth from left), capital projects manager, Stony Brook University Campus Planning, Design and Construction; Glen Itzkowitz (far right), associate dean, research facilities and operations, Stony Brook Medicine; representatives from equipment supplier Benco Dental; and several contractors responsible for the laboratory’s renovations.

“The laboratory space that has been created is truly a gem, and we have so many people at the university to thank for the efficiency and professionalism with which it came together,” said Dean Lloyd.

“ With our new lab, our residents have the resources they need to provide optimal care for their patients, as well as equipment to streamline workflows and maximize their residency experience,” Somohano Marquez added. “It is a beautiful new space that we look forward to using for many years to come.”

The prosthodontics residency program was established in 2013, welcoming two residents annually for clinical, laboratory and didactic training in fixed, removable. and implant prosthodontics.
