Tuition Deposit Refund Policy

  • Tuition deposit refund requests must be made in writing and submitted to the School of Dental Medicine by April 1, 2025.

  • No refund will be provided after this date.

  • You may submit the written request to SDM_Admissions@stonybrookmedicine.edu.

Tuition Deposit Deferrals

  • In general, deferrals of tuition deposits are not granted. An appeal for a deferral (not a waiver) of tuition deposit can be made by applicants who provide sufficient documentation of their participation as an undergraduate student in the EOP, HEOP, SEEK, CSTEP, MARC, PREP, RISE, LSAMP or McNair Scholars programs on any campus, or as an applicant through Project 1000, and receipt of ADEA Financial Assistance Program Fee Waiver.

  • In all other cases, a deferral (not a waiver) will be considered only for cases of extreme financial hardship, and then only with clear documentation from an appropriate official at an institution of higher education certifying financial need.

  • Please note that self-declaration of need by an applicant or mere eligibility for student financial aid (loans) is not adequate justification.
    After meeting the criteria for deferral eligibility, follow the guidelines below:

    • Students may not defer their deposit more than once.

    • Deferral requests must be sent to SDM_Admissions@stonybrookmedicine.edu prior to the student’s offer deadline.

    • Once a determination has been made by the SDM Office of Education, the Director of Financial Aid and Student Services will email studentbilling@stonybrook.edu with a request to move the deposit payment to a future term.

    • The email should specify the students ID number, name, and the term the deposit should be moved to. A confirmation email reply will be sent to the requestor once the deferral has been processed.

    • Once the deposit has been deferred, it is no longer eligible for a refund and will be forfeited and recognized as earned revenue by the University
