HDP 501 Introduction to Periodontics

Lectures and seminars that include presentations on the clinical and microscopic anatomy and physiology of the periodontium in health and disease, the behavioral, anatomic and biologic factors responsible for the various periodontal diseases and the application of this knowledge to the patient with an emphasis on the prevention of periodontal diseases and maintenance of oral health.

HDP 601 Diagnosis and Treatment of Periodontal Diseases I

Lectures and seminars that cover the the diagnosis, etiology, prognosis, treatment planning, periodontal therapy and the overall management of the patient with periodontal diseases.  It includes pre-clinical experience in the prevention and treatment of slight and moderately severe periodontal diseases to prepare the students for their clinical program.

Prerequisite:  HDP 501

HDP 621 Year 2 Periodontics Clinic

Emphasizes the application of knowledge in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with periodontal diseases.

HDP 701 Diagnosis and Treatment of Periodontal Diseases II

Lectures and seminars on the specific clinical findings associated with the various periodontal diseases and conditions including risk assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and therapy, and periodontal/systemic interrelationships (periodontal medicine).

HDP 702 Advanced Periodontal Therapy


Lectures and seminars on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of severe periodontitis and implant site development with emphasis on emerging technologies and surgical techniques.

Emphasizes the application of knowledge in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with periodontal diseases.

A periodontal component of the General Practice Program Clinic, HDG 821 that includes periodontal evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, non-surgical management and application of referral guidelines for patients of record and evaluation of treatment provided.
