Originally from Methuen, Massachusetts, Dr. Shank graduated summa cum laude from Merrimack College before earning his DDS from Georgetown University in 1983. He served as a US Navy dental officer from 1983 to 1986 and then completed his orthodontic certificate at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1988. In addition to his role at Stony Brook, Dr. Shank has been in private orthodontic practice since 1991.
