
Jeffrey Kopman, DDS, MMSc, clinical assistant professor in Stony Brook’s Department of Periodontics and Endodontics, was selected as a recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology’s Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Award. The honor acknowledges periodontal educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching, inspiring and supporting students.
In addition to his academic responsibilities at Stony Brook, Kopman practices periodontics at Leading Edge Specialized Dentistry in Melville, New York. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, and his certificate in periodontology and Master of Medical Sciences in oral biology from Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
Kopman is the son of Harold Kopman, an early volunteer faculty member in the then-Department of Periodontology at the SDM, teaching one day a week until the early 1990s while also practicing privately.
