Kenneth S. Kurtz, DDS, clinical professor in the Department of Prosthodontics and Digital Technology at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, was elected president of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) at the organization’s annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, last month.
“I am honored to lead the college at this point in time, as there are a number of important issues at present to address,” he said, noting a restructuring of the organization’s Education Foundation Board of Directors as well as a change in the American Board of Prosthodontists certification examination process. “Together with President-Elect Daniel Givan and Vice President Louis DeSantis, I hope to lead coordinated efforts, with the approval of the Board of Directors, to advance the specialty. I am always open to member feedback, and am already encouraged by a number of new faces volunteering to assist on committees.”
At Stony Brook, Kurtz serves as the director of the Division of Maxillofacial Prosthetics. He has also been committed to advancing the profession through research, specializing in studies on fatigue of implants as well as restorative materials. In 2022, he was recognized with the school’s Sreebny Lectureship Award, given annually to an ardent advocate for research and innovation.
Prior to joining Stony Brook, Kurtz taught for 15 years at his alma mater, New York University College of Dentistry. He is a fellow of both the ACP and the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP).
