Georgios Romanos, DDS, PhD, Prof Dr med dent, a professor in the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, has been awarded the International Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research (IADR) 2025 Distinguished Scientist Award in Prosthodontics and Implant Research. Presented annually at the IADR’s annual meeting in Barcelona, Spain, the award recognizes an individual who has contributed significantly to advancing knowledge through dental research.
Romanos’ research credentials include publishing more than 450 scientific peer-reviewed articles and eight scientific books. He has also been the mentor on more than 100 student research projects while at Stony Brook.
“Being honored by an institution as esteemed as the IADR is profoundly humbling,” Romanos said. “I thank my colleagues at Stony Brook for their support and collaboration, and the residents and students at Stony Brook, whose passion for advancing research in periodontics and dentistry in general is very inspiring.”
The IADR award is only the latest acknowledgment for Romanos, who recently received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and the Glenda Payas Outstanding Educator Award from the Academy of Laser Dentistry.
Romanos, a faculty member at Stony Brook since 2012, previously held professor appointments at Eastman Institute of Oral Health at the University of Rochester, New York University College of Dentistry, and the University of Frankfurt in Germany.
