Eric Zhang and his colleagues

Eric Zhang, DDS ’23, a third-year resident in the Advanced Dental Education Program in Orthodontics at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, was awarded first place in the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists (NESO) Cup Poster Competition as the organization’s annual meeting in Bonita Springs, Florida.

His research, titled “Investigating the Leaching of Plastic Particles from Orthodontic Clear Aligners and Retainers”, was chosen from  presentations given by residents and early-career orthodontists.

“I am sincerely thankful to NESO for recognizing our work with this award and for their commitment to advancing orthodontic scholarship,” Zhang said. “I’m excited to receive this distinction and eager to continue building on these findings.”

Zhang also praised the mentorship of Richard Faber, DDS, MS, clinical professor of orthodontics in the school’s Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, as well as the guidance from colleagues in Stony Brook’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.
