Dr. Julio Carrion Selected as 40 Under Forty Honoree

January 2017-They are groundbreakers and innovative. They are diverse. Unrelenting. Determined. Bold. Most of all, they are a successful cohort of grads who are making waves early in their careers. They are reflective of the immense capability all Stony Brook graduates harbor as they enter into professional fields.

The 40 Under Forty honorees represent the University’s most creative and bold young professionals in science, technology, engineering and medicine, as well as business, sports and the arts, from groundbreaking researchers and tech innovators, to health care advocates and civic heroes. Each will be honored at Stony Brook’s 40 Under Forty alumni recognition celebration on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at THREE SIXTY° in New York City.

Among them is Purple Heart recipient Jophiel Philips ’05; Eboné Carrington ’02, Harlem Hospital’s youngest-ever CEO; Adrian Carrasquillo ’09, White House correspondent for BuzzFeed News; inventor Katarzyna M. Sawicka ’04, ’05, ’14; and Dan McCloskey ’00, ’03, honored by President Barack Obama with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

The 40 Under Forty list includes 10 Long Islanders, as well as recipients from across the country and beyond.

“Stony Brook University graduates are ambitious and creative, they’re passionate, engaged in issues that matter and are pushing the boundaries of knowledge and expectations in their fields,” said Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. “This year’s 40 Under Forty honorees represent some of Stony Brook’s most influential and focused young alumni. They never fail to impress, and I’m eager to continue following their accomplishments.”
