Nominating Committee Report:
Substituting for Dr. Reed, the chairman of the Pro-Term Nominating Committee, Dr. Pollack presented the following AAOB slate of officers to the membership.

President: Richard Suddick
President-Elect: Israel Kleinberg
Secretary-Treasurer: Jerry Pollock
Program Officer: Lorne Golub
Elected Directors: Mary Ellen Druyan
  Stanley Holt
Editor: Olav Alvares

Elections:
Hearing no other nominations from the floor, the Nominating Committee's slate of officers was unanimously elected by the members present. These are the first elected officers of the American Association of Oral Biologists. Henceforth, the Association's annual elections will be held by mail ballot.

Secretary's/Treasurer Report:
Dr. Pollock reported that 100 of the Association's approximate 200 AAOB founding members have become active by paying their dues. A motion by Dr. Pollock to amend the bylaws to eliminate membership names from the original list of founding members, who did not pay their dues by September 1990, was postponed until the next business meeting of the AAOB.

Dr. Pollock also reported that the Association's assets were $1,916.22 minus some additional bank changes not yet received by the Secretary/Treasurer. Assets of the Association have been placed in the Hibernia National Bank in San Antonio. An Employee Identification Number for Non-Profit Organization Tax Exempt Status has been obtained by Dr. Suddick.

Program Committee Report:
A general discussion was held about the type of program that the AAOB would hold and where it would take place in 1991. Most of the discussion centered around the time and location of next year's American Association of Dental Schools and International/American Association for Dental Research Meetings that will be held separately at different times in different locations. The consensus of opinion was that the program should be held, if feasible, as a joint IADR AAOB symposium at the IADR meeting in Acapulco in April 1991. Since the AADS is scheduled to meet in New Orleans in 1991, it was agreed that the AADS would be informed of our activities through the section on Oral Biology of the AADS. Program plans for either an educational and/or research symposium will be announced in future correspondence.

IADR Group Status:
Oral Biologists have been invited to formally set up a Group in the IADR. A committee composed of IADR members Judith Buchanan, Frank Dowd, and Michael Reed have initiated the process of forming an Oral Biology Group at the IADR through the procedures established by the IADR.

Journal Affiliation Status:
Olav Alvares, Editor of Critical Reviews in Oral Biology and Medicine, expressed his continued commitment and support for AAOB. Critical Reviews in Oral Biology and Medicine is the official journal of our Association and is considering the possibility of offering reduced subscription rates for AAOB members.

National Board of Dental Examiners:
Dr. Suddick reported that the Secretary of the council on Dental Education has been contacted and informed of our strong desire for Oral Biology to provide input to the council on Dental Education Committee responsible for the Part II National Board Examinations. Several AADS Sections have expressed their support of this initiative and will write to the Council.

New Business:
Dr. Bernard Tandler, Chairman of Oral Biology at Case Western Reserve University, discussed the grave situation at CWRU. The University has proposed to eliminate 7 tenured professors, the entire Oral Biology Department of the Dental School. Dr. Tandler pointed out that if AAOB wants to help, speed was of the essence since the Faculty Senate was soon meeting on the University President's proposal. Dr. Suddick, our President, will write letters on behalf of AAOB to appropriate individuals at Case Western, as well as to the American Association of University Professors. Members also are urged to write letters of support to the following individuals.
