National Recognition for Laser Research in Dental Medicine

May 2016-Dr. Georgios Romanos has received the T. H. Maiman Award for Excellence in Laser Research from the Academy of Laser Dentistry at the 2016 ALD Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. The T.H. Maiman Award is presented for excellence in dental laser research, and is named in honor of Dr. Theodore H. Maiman who developed the first dental laser in 1960.

Previous winners include  Dr. Raimund Hibst, Director, Institute for Laser Technology, Ulm, Germany, Dr. John B. Featherstone, Dean, UCSF School of Dentistry, Dr. Akira Aoki ,Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and Dr. Peter Rechmann, Director of the Clinical Sciences Research Group at the UCSF School of Dentistry.

Ms. Daniele Sacks was awarded the Dr. Eugene Seidner Student Scholarship to participate in the  2016 ALD Annual Conference. The Dr. Eugene Seidner Student Scholarship award provides a year of ALD membership, conference registration fees, Standard Proficiency Dental Laser Education application fees, coach class round trip air transportation and hotel accommodations to attend the ALD Annual Conference. Ms. Sacks received the third place award for the presentation of her research project conducted in Dr. Ramanos’s laboratory.  Ms. Sacks also received a dental laser education certificate for "Standard Proficiency”. The “Standard Proficiency" level defines the standard of care for the dental professional.
