School of Dental Medicine White Coat Ceremony – Class of 2017
STONY BROOK, NY, April 10, 2014 - Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine held its annual White Coat Ceremony on April 10, 2014 at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics. Forty-two members of the Class of 2017 were inducted as “white coat recipients” by Interim Dean Mary Truhlar and Distinguished Speaker, Mr. Fred Sganga, Executive Director of the Long Island State Veterans Home. Faculty, family and friends of the class were also in attendance. In his address to the class, Mr. Sganga reminded the students of the ethics, professionalism, responsibilities and joys associated with the care of patients. Dr. Dimitrios Kilimitzoglou, President of the School of Dental Medicine Alumni Board, presented Dr. Mark Wolff, Chair of the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care and Associate Dean Predoctoral Clinical Education at New York University College of Dentistry, with the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Dr. Wolff received his DDS in 1981 and PhD in 1997 from Stony Brook University. Dr. Wolff ended the program by leading the Class of 2017 in the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath.
