Undergraduate College/University: Barnard College

I did undergraduate research at Barnard College in Organic Chemistry. My research focused on methods for incorporating nitrogen into organic molecules and application of these methods to the synthesis of amino sugars. I also spent a summer at the Organization for Tropical Studies in La Selva, Costa Rica doing behavioral research on the nesting habits of wasps.

I have enjoyed doing research in the Cutler Lab at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine under the guidance of Dr. Julio Carrion in the summer fellowship program. My research project focuses on the importance of gingival dendritic cells as a plausible source of atherogenic dendritic cells. I am also investigating the role of Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), a significant bacterial pathogen in chronic periodontitis involved in atherogenesis, which infects the dendritic cells in the gingiva. In the coming year I look l forward to continuing her research project in the Cutler Lab.
