I started doing basic science research my junior year of college with interests in microbiology, genetics, and cancer. In senior year, I achieved honors in biology through an independent study entitled "Investigation of the mechanism by which c-MYC activates DKC1 transcription." At Stony Brook Dental, I continued research with Dr. Stephen Walker. Together, we assessed the efficacy of alcohol-free mouthwashes on cariogenic biofilms of Streptococcus mutans. I presented our findings at the 2010 Leo Sreebny Research Symposium and won the honor of SDM's Outstanding Oral Presentation Award. This made me eligible to participate in the upcoming 2010 SCADA/Dentsply Research Symposium, where I will represent Stony Brook in a poster competition against students from US dental schools.
